Increasing Empathy for Food Insecure Communities

Information and communication design poster for Feeding America

This poster was created from the point of view of Feeding America, a non-profit organization, to educate wealthier communities about food insecurity and increase their level of donations and volunteer hours.

Using a full transcript of a focus group conducted with adults battling chronic illness, the information regarding how their illness affected their diet and their views about food was synthesized to a single design artifact.

The Space Between : This artifact is intended to meaningfully inform audiences who are not regularly exposed to food insecurity about how their lives would drastically change if they lost the ability to eat regularly or have control over the foods they ate. The goal of this poster is to help food secure audiences empathize with communities that are food insecure, and motivate them to donate their money or time through volunteering.
