Agricultural Trucking in America

Creating a more sustainable and equitable food transportation network

In today's world of ecommerce everything, we often forget about the vast network of infrastructure and logistics that goes into getting what we want to our doorstep. As we buy avocados from California or crabs from Alaska, how often do we stop and wonder about what had to be done to get it from the farm to the store fresh, consistently and on-time?

In this project, we mapped out the agricultural transportation system. We then chose to focus on one area that has been historically disadvantaged by the system: truckers. We looked at both the environmental and socio-economic impacts that results from the changes to the system. While this system is often hidden in plain sight, it has global impacts, especially when it comes to emissions. But all the efforts that are going into making this system sustainable, will also end up disadvantaging truckers. By studying the power dynamics at play within the system, we were able to create a roadmap for a more sustainable, but also more equitable future.
